A Frame For Raised Bed Gardening

April 28, 2011 Posted by Home and Fashion 0 comments

Raised bed gardening has several advantages. One of which is less erosion of the soil which you need to grow the plants on. There are many ideas of how to build a raised bed garden and how to maintain it. Raised bed gardening may need a frame that will hold together your garden and keep the plants from spreading around too much.
Landscape Garden4
Building A Frame For Raised Bed Gardening
A frame for raised bed gardening usually consists of a wooden frame that is either bolted together or nailed together. All you will need for a raised bed gardening frame are four planks of wood, preferably untreated to avoid the chemicals from getting to your vegetable plants, four smaller posts of wood to act as corners, some bolts or nails that coordinate with the thickness of your planks and some carpentry tools such as a hammer or a wood drill.
Landscape Garden
Have the planks you have chosen precut to the sizes that are ideal for building a frame for raised bed gardening. If you have the capacity and the inclination to cut the lumber yourself, make sure that you know what you are doing and have the necessary safety equipment to do so. A rectangular raised bed gardening frame is better than a square one. Make sure that the shorter sides will allow you to reach all parts of the raised bed garden when it is finished. A frame four feet wide and five to seven feet in length will be ideal. Make sure the raised bed gardening frame will fit your assigned garden spot.
Landscape Garden3
On the longer lengths of wood, you can measure where you wish to drill holes for the bolts on the planks and posts. Place a post on both ends and either nail or bolt these on the pieces of lumber with longer length. Attach the shorter pieces of wood pretty much the same way as the longer pieces to make a frame. The posts will act as a support for the nails or bolts to make the frame more stable and sturdy.

It is actually better to use bolts for your raised bed gardening frame. You can loosely screw them when you are still in the process of forming the frame. These can be tightened accordingly when you are satisfied with your frame. A raised bed gardening frame will help you organize your gardening and help to reduce the pests that may crawl up to your garden.

Bird watching is a popular hobby and not many people can afford to frequently pursue this hobby in the wild or on a holiday, so they have to resort to what they have: their own backyards. The wonderful thing, however, is that you can now make a mini nature reserve out of your own garden if you plan your design carefully and incorporate elements into your design that will attract a large array of wildlife and bird species. Different types of birds are attracted to different seeds and colours, while others would just like a place to cool off during summer – the trick is to give the birds what they want and soon they will be “knocking” on your door.
Landscape Design
The use of acorns can, for example, attract jays, quails and even woodpeckers. You can incorporate acorns into your landscape design by making an acorn pathway. This will not only attract wildlife, but also will provide a creative alternative to the usual stone or brick walkway. If you make use of millet, you will soon see doves, sparrows and finches. Willows are beautiful in any garden and can make the garden look extremely full and natural. These willows will also ultimately help you attract grosbeaks and redpolls. Another trick that is quite successful in attracting birds, such as ravens and bluebirds, is the use of solidified bacon fat along with other seeds. Put seeds in a tube feeder to make sure you do not waste seeds. You can also incorporate an anthill into your garden to ultimately bring in birds that like insects. Anthills can be great features in backyards.
Landscape Design3
Hummingbirds and orioles are drawn to aloes, while amaranth attracts juncos and tree sparrows. Bluebirds, catbirds, great crested flycatchers, jays, mockingbirds, tanagers, thrashers, thrushes, and waxwings prefer berries that can make an attractive addition to any yard. Both humans and birds like berries, especially ripening blackberries. The ideal period to offer these in your feeder is when they cannot be found anywhere else: for example, in winter, there is a demand greater than the supply. Strawberries will attract catbirds, crows, quails, robins, and sparrows while raspberries will draw bluebirds, orioles, pigeons, titmice, and waxwings. If you want to draw in cardinals, grosbeaks, nuthatches, or titmice, sunflowers will be very beneficial.
Landscape Design1
Make your landscape “bird family friendly” by adding water and food sources, as well as many nooks and crannies for making nests. This will make your garden a haven for these birds and they will not mind bringing their families and other birds to you. However, then you should take care not to let your cats or any other threats near these areas. Birdbaths are practically prerequisites when you want to attract birds to your landscape, because this provides them with something to drink, as well as a place to cool off in summer. Birdbaths are made of rock or stone and can be artworks in themselves. You can slowly teach these birds to even feed out of your very hand!

Landscape Garden
Location:Thursley, Surrey
This Landscape project was a joy to work with.  It was a Landscapers dream come true to turn a very bland typically sloped (graded) garden into something interesting for a very reasonable budget. GB Building helped with this split level garden from the design stage. The aim was to add some interest to the garden scheme and to encourage wild life in doing so.
This has added value to the property some (£10.000) and cost under half that to complete.
The wall is built from drystone pre-formed blocks (Cotswold variety).
The pond was formed simply with a liner built into the blocks.
The water pump and power supply are installed by our certified electrical team.
GB Building are proud of this achievement and came in on budget as always.

Outdoor Lighting Fixtures – Light Up Your Patio Or Yard

January 6, 2011 Posted by Home and Fashion 0 comments
Top Outdoor Lighting Fixtures
Most people realize that adding outdoor lighting fixtures to their property have many advantages. From being able to enhance the safety of your home and business, to creating a warmer ambiance, choosing the right lights for your needs may play a big factor. Choosing the sort that will suit your needs best often seems much more intimidating than it really is. It all boils down to figuring out what looks the way that you want and still yet offers you the best lighting option.
Pole lighting is often the most used way of enhancing a property with outdoor lighting fixtures. Many people feel that this is the best way to light their home’s exterior, however, it may not be the right choice for everyone. Because of the way that people’s tastes have changed over the years, there are other options available, from ground lighting, to lights that attach to the house, itself. Pathway lights are very popular as well because they do light the walkways, making the path safer and more clear.
When you’re considering outdoor lighting fixtures another concern is going to be which power options you have. For most lights, the source of power will be electricity, though in recent years, solar powered lights have become very trendy and also quite affordable. For those who wish to have pathway lighting but do not have a readily available power source, solar lighting is often a great alternative. These generally do not cast such glaring light but will need a few hours in direct sunlight to work properly. One of the biggest benefits of these, however, is the ease in installation. Almost anyone can install solar ground lighting because generally, it does not involve a great deal of technical know-how.

For those who do have power sources near to where they want to install lighting, there are many options in low voltage power use lights. These usually have their own transformer, and this keeps the current that comes from the power source to the outdoor lighting fixture low so that there isn’t much power being used. These are also generally run on timers that keep the lighting on a schedule and are also fairly easy to install.
Higher voltage options that are out there generally are best left to professionals to install, but will be one of the greater things that can be done to enhance the safety of your home. Once you have chosen the voltage, choosing a style may be difficult. There are a number of different styles out there, that is certain, and figuring out what will go best with your home and your budget at the same time just takes a little shopping around. However, taking your time to choose the outdoor lighting fixtures that will most suit your needs, style and budget is definitely worth the time it takes. There are great options out there no matter what it is you are hoping to accomplish, and you’re sure to find something at a price that works for you.

modern lighting
Want a cold atmosphere, select white light. Want a warm, choose yellow. In fact choosing the lighting for the home, not as simple as that, you know.
The presumption was actually not wrong. Determination of “warm” or “cold” is strongly influenced by various factors. One of them is a style of architecture and interior design of a house or room.
Traditionally dominated by the minimalist style of cool colors, the most widely used white. Coupled with a versatile arrangement orderly, neat and clean, not surprisingly minimalist room would generate an atmosphere of “cold”. If it was like, before deciding to apply a light yellow or white, ask yourself, what is desired.
If the home owner decided he wanted to strengthen the atmosphere of ‘cold’, so please use the bright white lights. Conversely, if the owner of the house wanted to “fight” with the warmth of a cold atmosphere, means suitable to apply with a light yellowish light.
Determine the lighting, Many factors, especially the needs and tastes of home owners, which affects the choice of lighting design, light color, until the placement of lights. So do not get stuck belief, yes.
